Re-elect Selectman Mike Akillian
I have over 35 years experience in applying strategic governance, management, and communications to help organizations prosper. I’ve served on the management teams of firms specializing in decision support and analytic software, electronic publishing, and strategic communications, and have consulted with corporations, non-profits, schools, and government agencies at all levels.
Some clients have included: the Harvard Business School, GE, Mellon Bank, Pillsbury, Perdue Farms, Raytheon, United Asset Management, Boston College, UCLA, Joslin Diabetes Center, and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges adopted my refinements to traditional strategic planning as best practices for its 1,900 member organizations and 40,000 individual members.
And, closer to home, in 2013, I adapted this approach to strategic governance for Amherst's municipal government. It has been used ever since by the selectmen, department heads, town administrator, and a growing number of town committees, commissions and boards. I've also shared key elements with the Amherst and Mont Vernon school boards and served on the superintendent's strategic planning teams.
I serve as Director of the Center for Strategic Governance (strat-gov.com) as a way to share strategic governance processes and tools with other communities. We've been exploring whether state organizations serving municipalities want to use these resources for free to serve the other 233 cities and towns of New Hampshire.
I have appeared on WBUR’s Morning Edition and WGBH’s Greater Boston discussing aspects of leadership and governance.
